How To: Birth Announcement Photos

Ok mamas, let’s talk birth announcements!

Have you ever looked at those beautifully captured photos of newborns and wondered how it’s done? Well beauties, we have the secret, well, we think we do anyway. Having styled and captured over 50 newborn shoots for Bowy Made, we have learnt a thing or two.

What To Wear

To start, find that adorable little outfit your little love will be wearing along with any blankets, plaques, teddies, baskets ect.

Create A Setting

Lay your arrangement out first. We suggest to set your arrangement up on the floor to make it easier to stand over bub, instead of trying to stand on a bed and not be able to see your screen when you take a photo. Now, the most important part of this set up, is the lighting. You want your little arrangement in an area that has lots of natural light. We do all our shoots next to large glass doors to allow the light to fill our scene. 

Next, we recommend popping a nice cosy Doona on the ground (or something along these lines) to go under your arrangement. This will make a comfortable base for your beautiful model to lay on.

Timing Is Everything

Once all the blankets, basket, bits and bobs are in place. Pick a time when your little bub is due for a feed. Dress baby, pop a bib on and have a feed. This will ensure bub is nice and settled for when you are taking that perfect first photo. Once fed, burped and happy, you will find your newborn is sleepy and very content. This is when you can place your baby down in the ready made arrangement. Get them into that cute position and snap a photo.

Take the shot at just the right time.  

Added Cuteness Tip

Now if your bub loves a dummy, has settled and is fast asleep, you can then slowly remove the dummy from their mouth. As you do this you will usually find they pucker those cute lips up and make that little photo just a touch cuter (if that is even possible). But make sure you are ready mama. This can happen fast so be set up ready to click away.
